What is SSME?

Service Science, Management, and Engineering was introduced by IBM to describe Services Sciences, an interdisciplinary approach to the study, design, and implementation of service systems in which arrangements of people and technologies provide value for others as an application of science, management, and engineering.

SSME is a call to action for academia, industry, and governments to focus on becoming systematic about innovation in the service sector. SSME is also a proposed academic discipline and research area that would complement the disciplines that contribute to knowledge about service.
